NWIMT Background - NWIMT Formation
 NWIMT Background

NW Washington team gets started - 2005

An informal working group with representatives from several public agencies and disciplines developed the concept of forming a multi-discipline Type 3 (regional) Incident Management team in 2005.  By the end of 2005, discussions reached the point where additional involvement and more formal documents and policies were needed in order to continue.  The working group identified volunteers to serve as Interim board members.  To be consistent with the concept of a multi-disciplinary team, initial volunteer board members represent a variety of disciplines and come from a variety of agencies within the region.

Intial Board Formed - November 2005

Initial Board members agreed to volunteer to assist as policy advisors to support NWIMT formation in November 2005.  The volunteer board will continue until sufficient members sign on via an Interlocal agreement and elected board members are selected, or until the overall effort to create the NWIMT is disbanded.

Access to significant asset

The trailer shown at right is equipped to provide operational support in emergency incidents.  The trailer has been utilized in eastern Washington during the 2006 wildfire season.  At the same time, potential NWIMT members received opportunities to "shadow" and gain experience by following other IMTs.

The trailer is equipped with two generators, five networked computers, a color printer, high-speed copier, and a color plotter for maps.  It also comes with 24 Bendix-King hand-held VHF radios, and Incident Commander Radio Interface and two portable repeaters.

Current Status - Team was official effective February 1, 2007 - and participated in several exercises and deployments in 2007

The NWIMT became official in February 2007, with sufficient team members identifed and trained.  Adding member agencies is an ongoing effort, with presentations and information being distributed to various public agencies throughout the 5-county area.  Agencies that have signed are identified on our Membership page.
